Captain Andrew Hertel (ret.), senior director of Navy Programs at Saildrone, served over 29 years in the US Navy. His sea tours include Commanding Officer of the submarine USS Texas (SSN 775), XO on USS North Carolina (SSN 777), department head on USS Greeneville (SSN 772) and junior officer on USS Tennessee (SSBN 734). He also served as senior staff of 7th Fleet based in Yokosuka, Japan, as well as in multiple fleet support and training assignments essential for the support of deployed forces. He holds a BS from the University of Illinois and an MBA from Troy University.
