A trained ship mechanic, Arndt von Drathen graduated in 2002 from Flensburg University of Applied Sciences as a marine engineer. After writing his thesis during his time with MTU's R&D department, he joined MTU's technical sales department focusing on propulsion system solutions. From July 2006 until December 2014 Arndt headed the Submarine and Minehunter Group within the MTU Application Centre Marine, being responsible for the conceptual design, detailed engineering and processing of all naval propulsion system projects for these applications. Due to his strong engineering background, Arndt now acts as principal engineer for Submarine and Minehunter application projects.
