He is a Professor in the Electrical & Computer Engineering Department and the Director of the Digital Telecommunications Systems and Networks Laboratory. He is also an Honorary Professor at Southwest Jiaotong University, China. His research interests lie in Digital Communications Systems and Signal processing, with over 500 technical papers to his name. Recently, he received the 2021 IEEE ComSoc RCC Technical Recognition Award, the 2018 IEEE ComSoc SPCE Technical Recognition Award and the 2022 Humboldt Research Award from the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
