Roald Otnes  received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in telecommunications from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway, in 1998 and 2003, respectively.

Since 2003, he has been a Scientist at the Norwegian Defence Research Establishment (FFI), Horten, Norway. Since 2021, he has been Research Manager leading FFI’s Sonar Technology group. His research interests include underwater sensor networks, underwater acoustic communications, and sonar signal processing.
