Persistent ISR and ASW from a USV: Bluebottle Operational Experience with the Royal Australian Navy
The Royal Australian Navy has employed Bluebottle uncrewed surface vessels in operational service over the last two years to deliver persistent surface and subsurface intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. This presentation presents a case study based on that real‑world experience, examining how uncrewed systems have been integrated into routine maritime operations rather than trial activities. It focuses on the practical use of autonomous platforms for surface ISR and their contribution to undersea awareness, highlighting operational lessons, limitations and outcomes observed in service. The insights are directly relevant to Atlantic Net stakeholders assessing the role of uncrewed systems within future ISR and ASW force structures.
