Mrs Hazel Newman
Hazel is a Senior Defence Stakeholder Manager at the UK Met Office. She is part of a team responsible for ensuring MOD and its allied partners have access to the latest assured meteorological, oceanographic and climate modelling, data and expert services to ensure operational advantage.
Hazel is a Geospatial Analyst having started her career in Government as a GIS Analyst and cartographer, she joined the MOD at the UK Hydrographic Office in 2010. Retraining as a marine cartographer, she worked across International Hydrographic Programmes and as a Defence Requirements Manager for the Littoral, Oceanographic and Mine Warfare domains. She chaired the NATO Geospatial Maritime Working Group and lead the UK/US maritime geospatial product working group.
In 2020 Hazel joined the Met Office and commenced a very steep learning experience in all things meteorological and climate science. She currently leads on exploiting Met Office Science and Technology for Defence and Security. She is proud to represent the Met Office as one of MODs Specialist Geospatial Centres, working to support UK Defence and its partners across Land, Sea, Air and Space.
Hazel is married with two grown up children, living in Somerset and is usually found plotting her latest escape to the sea with the dog.
